I followed the howto http://www.howtoforge.com/linux_rdiff_backup but when i do the backup as shown rdiff-backup server1_backup::/boot boot both owner and group are rdiff-backup. How do i keep the original owner and group? Is it a good idea to keep it as rdiff-backup and on the restore change the groups to whatever they were (root, apache, mysql, ...)?
I guess you have to run rdiff-backup as root then. But this tutorial might also be of interest to you: http://www.howtoforge.com/mirroring_with_rsync Using that method, permissions and ownerships are kept.
