I will apologize ahead of time for my lack of knowledge in regards to Linux in general.

Currently I have a LAMP server running Ubuntu 8.04 Server. I'm interested in also using this same system to host a Remote File Server. Basically I want to be able to create a Network Share in Windows (XP) that will link me to my server over the internet. I would also like to be able to control what is shared on my Remove Server, and depending on ones login be able to redirect them to there own home directory so to speak. The issue is I have no clue where to start, seeing how I really don't understand the concept of Samba, LDAP, and the variety of other types of servers or services that are available.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks!

    Thanks for the reply!

To an extent that is what I'm looking for. While that would give my web users limited acces to there files only, both thru WebDav and FTP, other than SSH it wouldn't allow me mount my full filesystem as a network drive (or certain portions) so I could upload and download files to and from the server with out being locked into my /www folder. At least so it seems. While I can definatly use portions of that, I'm still looking for something a bit more capable than that.

    Any more ideas?

    Thanks!
