hello guys, I am new here and a newbie to Linux also. I am interested in installing Ubuntu studio on one of my older desktops. It is a pentium III, about 196 ram on it and 20 gigs of hard drive. I can upgrade the ram a bit. However, I wanted to pick some heads to get a general idea on how much is good enough for Ubuntu Studio to function decently fast. I know the recommended is 256 megs of ram but does it work slower on that. Your advice will be very much appreciated.

I think you should buy more RAM. 196MB is not that much. I think it will run, but you won'T have much fun with it... I'd recommend 512MB at least.
