Hello Forum, I am a bit stuck about what to do next and how to get ISPConfig domain names resolved globally? I followed the procedures in "How To Run Your Own Name Servers With ISPConfig And GoDaddy" and everything looks OK. I purchased two names to test at godaddy (ispv6ng.com and ispv6ng.co.uk) and created ns1.ipv6ng.com and ns2.ipv6ng.com nameservers. When I dig these they look OK I then created the necessary DNS and changed the authoritative names servers for ispv6ng.co.uk. This also looks OK. Now I am confused about what to do next regarding additional domain names. I have created some test DNS entries within ISPConfig and can only see them on the localhost. For instance locally it is so. but without the "@localhost" ; Question is can anyone suggest what I need to do next to get this resolved globally?
In the GoDaddy interface, you must specify ns1 and ns2.ipv6ng.com as the authoritative name servers for the domain.
Falko, thanks for the reply. You'll have to excuse my ignorance I was hoping to not have to go through godaddy or any registrar for additional domain names. I was assuming that once I had created the ns1 and ns2 nameservers at godaddy and then added the A records at godaddy for ipv6ng.com in this instance. The TLD would then know my nameserver and hence - from then on - any new domains names added using ISPConfig to the new ns1 namservers, would be globally propagated. Am I wrong then? I am still trying to understand DNS by reading "Traditional DNS Howto" , but any suggestions for further reading would be help.
This would mean you could create as many domains as you like without paying for them, simply by adding them to your DNS server. This doesn't work. You must register a domain first with a domain registrar like GoDaddy.
Falko, yeah i suppose that's what I was secretly hoping for I think I know enough now to start buying a few meaningful names now. Thanks for all your help.
