    Hi all,

I had to set up ispconfig from scratch, cause of a harddisk crash. I was able to backup all data and followed this howto on how to move everything. All looks good, the only problem on my new debian box is, that the passwords of the old /etc/shadow (started with debian 3) do not work on debian 5.

the new passwords look different (longer) and I always get a login failed when trying to login on the box (ssh, ftp, imap, pop3).

Is there a way to get the passwords working again?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi all,

found out how to resolve the problem for courier (it was the main problem).

pam is not able to use the old crypt passwords. So I added again "authshadow" to the authmodulelist in authdaemonrc like it was in my old installation. Now I can login to courier again and check my mails.

    Proftpd works with old passwords.

    Hi again,

after some time of testing, I figured out, that the problem were double entries in /etc/shadow.

During installation of ispconfig2, the users of the old database were added a second time behind my copied users. They all had no password set, so this entry without password was used for imap/pop3. After deleting the double entries in /etc/shadow, all is working like a charm.
