I'm not getting the warm fuzzies about the Roundcube plugin for ISPConfig. I believe I have everything installed correctly - with great exchanges with @Th0m and his updated documentation. But I've found issues that seem to be show-stoppers, and have noted them in the repo Issues. The devs there seem very slow to acknowledge issues and make changes. I'm not feeling comfortable with the stability or dedication of developers for that specific FOSS. Am I in a minority? Am I not perceiving this correctly? Should I/we be considering alternatives? Should this all "just work"? I'll be happy to look deeper into my installation and do what I can to fix it, but I'm getting the feeling that this is going to be an ongoing struggle. Just to be clear: The plugins are not a part of ISPConfig and they are not maintained by us. I do use them and they work fine for me - it does what it should do. The development isn't very active, but there are no big issues either. Though I would like to see https://github.com/w2c/ispconfig3_roundcube/issues/102 implemented.
And to be clear here - I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to convey the impression that I think the plugin code is maintained here. And that wasn't in any way a note reflecting on you. This is purely an un-directed, open comment about what I'm thinking about that interface so far. As an example of why I am thinking like this... - On login the mailbox/account address isn't loaded into the profile. I get loginId@localhhost. - Aliases are read and available under Identities, but I'm not able to send with an alias that has been defined in ISPConfig for the purpose. I don't know if these are installation-specific issues, or version-specific, or simply never-implemented features. The plugins are old and I can't tell if low-activity means they are mature and not needing a lot of maintenance, or if they are half-baked and just acceptable as-is to those who use them. From my perspective as a newcomer, this becomes another research project, where slow response from developers means I need to get into code myself, create logs to see what data is pulled from ISPConfig and how it's used. That's not a criticism, it's a fact of FOSS. And I'm not complaining about anything, I'm just trying to ascertain the state of this set of plugins so that I know my next steps. Should I plan for a good amount of DIY investigation, or are other people here comfortable that everything Should work, and that patience and respect for developer time Should yield positive results in a reasonable amount of time? I just don't know what to expect, and because of this, "I'm not a fan yet". But with some feedback from other users about appropriate expectations, that will easily change. Once I have an understanding about what we should expect from this, I'd like to put it into some documentation so that other newcomers can quickly form their own reasonable expectations. Imo they do what they must do and there are no (big) problems. There are a few improvements that could be made but without them I am still happy with it.
Can you see aliases and send with those that are flagged for sending? If so then I'll look into my config. If not then I'll look into the code. Thanks!
