    Hi all,
i want to setup a samba server in our school network and we want to have a directory for everyone and an individual one per person. Would samba be a good choice for that? Are there GUI's for user management? Is it possible to create directories that only specified user groups are allowed to access? This would be very useful for projects in computer science.

    thanks in advance

Yes you can use samba for those things.

    - You can have users only access certain shares depending on their groups
    - You can have "homedirs"
    - GUI's for usermanagement: http://www.webmin.com/ (you can practically manage everything with it)
