Hi, I send this message because i was wondering if someone does know something about VPN and Samba. The aim is to share files over the internet using samba. I read on a few forums that i needed a VPN connection but I don't know how to implement it. I do have a samba standalone setup (without any domain and i do not plan to have one in the nearest future) with a few shares. As i already said, the project concists of making some of those shares available trough the internet on another LAN. For better comprehension look at the scheme bellow. MyprivateLAN-------router1------SAMBASERVER----- router2---- INTERNET -----router3------ LANclient So the current setup concists of having shares between SAMBASERVER and MyprivateLAN trought router1 Thanks in advance, falcon5

thank you falko i could not make it work. I did try your howto (http://www.howtoforge.com/ubuntu6.06_firewall_gateway_p7) with the same disappointing result. does localip in pptpd correspond to eth0? do i have to put a syntax of ppp0 in /etc/network/interfaces?
VPN seems to work now with pptpd but still can't access samba anyone some ideas? Thanks in advance. I'll post compete config once finished
