I too followed the Virtual User How-To for Ubuntu 8.04 located here. I have read several other threads that are similar to my problem, but haven't been exactly the same. I too am getting the relay access denied error, but I have a SASL Login authentication error in my logs.

    Specifically, it says Permission denied.

    Code:
    Jun 6 15:17:28 gopher postfix/smtpd[20679]: connect from 72-56-203-221.area2.spcsdns.net[72.56.203.221]
Jun 6 15:17:32 gopher postfix/smtpd[20679]: warning: SASL authentication failure: cannot connect to saslauthd server: Permission denied
Jun 6 15:17:32 gopher postfix/smtpd[20679]: warning: 72-56-203-221.area2.spcsdns.net[72.56.203.221]: SASL LOGIN authentication failed: generic failure

    Thanks.

    [solved]

Thanks Falko. That did the trick. I don't know how I missed that.
