this question is not related to ispconfig specifically, however, i have a Debian 9 + apache + postfix (for sending emails from whmcs)

I thought something was wrong with the mail server today and have spent many hours trying to determine why emails were apparently not being sent (stupid me did not fully check via all avenues before coming to this conclusion)

Tonight i suddenly realised (quite by accident) that in fact the server is sending emails. I setup a second account and used a different email address and voila, that email account is receiving emails from my postfix smtp mail server.

email one is - [email protected]
email two is - [email protected]

Can someone help me troubleshoot why outlook.live.com is not accepting emails from my server but hotmail is?

I have also now realised that gmail is rejecting it as well.

Is it possible for a mail to server to send using phpmailer in a manner that hotmail accepts, however, the smtp server is actually not working? (doesnt php mailer still use smtp server? so if hotmail is receiving then smtp is working?)

please excuse my naivety, i am anything but an email guru, more like a mail server tragic actually...
If there was an issue between postfix and dovecot, could that cause this kind of problem?

Perhaps a more intelligent question might be, what steps should i go through in order to ensure that postfix and dovecot are working correctly on an existing install where live sites are involved and i cant perform a complete reinstall?

Have you tried Internet Search Engines with

actually, it turns out that the problem was a new theme update for the control panel (Webmin/Usermin) i was using with the particular server in question (i have a number of servers all running different CP's). A heap of guys have been posting complaints...so i reverted back to an earlier theme and voila its working again. I then forced an update for a second time...its all good now.
