Well, seems not to be my .9 to .10 upgrade, that's responsible for my weak server...there seems to be something really wrong because commands and even login within putty need a long time to be executed, WinSCP breaks down quite often with its 15 sec. connection-timeout and admin-panel is slow like having a 486 33Mhz....

The Hardware is 700Mhz 256MB, which should be enough, I guess...so I'm searching for what is slowing everything to death, without really knowing where and what for to look. Below some outputs I could get (after a while) within putty:

    Code:

How high is the load on your server? Please post the output of the command "uptime".

Tja, würde ich gern...aber inzwischen, nachdem ich mittels crontab -e noch eine unnötige Erweiterung entfernt habe, kriege ich auf der Shell nur noch:

    Code:
    Using username "root".
    Last login: Fri Mar 2 03:35:34 2007 from p549f45ef.dip0.t-ipconnect.de
    84-16-251-18:~# uptime
    -bash: /usr/bin/uptime: Eingabe-/Ausgabefehler
    bzw. :

    Code:
    84-16-251-18:~# crontab -e
/tmp/crontab.qqN9AP: Das Dateisystem ist nur lesbar
Creation of temporary crontab file failed - aborting
    84-16-251-18:~#

    English, please.

It seems your disk is mounted read-only. What's the output of
    Code:
    mount
    ?

There you go...the solution was simple but not easy: The harddrive burned out...without realizing earlier I had toput on a hole new config today...well, got this server one year ago from Netdirekt...could this happen after that period of time? Maybe now systemimager becomes my best friend, hrrhrr and maybe I will ask Netdirekt for another 256MB of Ram. Now I have lost a lot of time and got a 20GB harddrive for that...should be a deal to ask for the ram too.... sh.t :)

    It shouldn't, but unfortunately it's possible... :(
