    I have followed the tutorial Virtual Users And Domains With Postfix, Courier, MySQL And SquirrelMail (Ubuntu 9.10) Afterwards I have created domain example.com and mail [email protected] but when I try to login I get error message that IMAP refused the connection when I checked the /var/log/mail.err it says that there is no such file or directory. In the tutorial it says that I have to send welcome mail to the newly created mail account so the postfix will create maildir. But I`m sendind the mail with mailx to the desired email and the mail it is not getting there. The server is local I assume that because it is local and I don`t have local DNS server and zone file with MX record to my local server is the reason why the mail I send with mailx it is not reaching the created mail.
    The hostname is server1 the domain is example.com in the host file I have added the lines
    127.0.0.1 server1.example.com example.com
    but still when I address the mail [email protected] I think it is not resolved localy.
    So if some one could help me I would be very grateful thanks in advance

    When I send mail with mailx [email protected] nothing is written to maillog only when I try with squirrelmail. And /home/vmail it is empty so I assume that mail it is not reaching it`s destination and because of that maildir for user "user" it is not created.

    This is the error
    Jan 7 19:46:43 server1 imapd: [email protected]: No such file or directory
    Is it possible that this error comes from something else than empty mailbox for [email protected] ?

    OK I have found the mistakes that have made. One typo on password and one table not created in the mail database. Now all is working locally but when I try to send mail to outside mail address squirrel mail is sending the mail w/o reporting error but the mail it is not reaching outside mail address and the mail client is reporting error "Relay Access denied". Any ideas on that ?

    I have installed "Virtual Users And Domains With Postfix, Courier, MySQL And SquirrelMail (Fedora 12 x86_64)"

    All was ok - after indications. no error message, all checsk was ok

    But when I send from [email protected] email to [email protected] postfix does not create the directory user1 in /home/vmail

    so - 1. I cannot logged into WEBMAIL / SquirrelMail - when I give the correct user and password - I receive the message : "ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server."

    and in /var/log/maillog after few time - appear the lines :
    "....
    Jan 19 16:52:21 mail imapd: Connection, ip=[::1]
    Jan 19 16:52:21 mail imapd: chdir example1.com/user1/: No such file or directory
    Jan 19 16:52:21 mail imapd: [email protected]: No such file or directory
    ..."

    ps : server name is mail , domain is example.com, user is user1

    up

    can anyone give some advices ?

    Other question - it is necesary to create in linux a same user like in mysql for postfix be capable create mailbox directory ?

    example - want 3 mailboxes.
    user1, user2, user3
    it is necesary to create with adduser - in linux - equivalents of - user1, user2, user3 fom USERS table ?

    logicaly - it no seems necesary - BUT - need confirmation to be sure .

    ref. to kokir9 say - IF U don't set to PASSWORD the "ENCRYPTED" field - login don't work - squirrel give the message - "incorect user or bad password" - so be carefuly !

    in mailog no unusual errors.

    just standard :

    Jan 21 11:08:18 mail clamd[1581]: SelfCheck: Database status OK.
    Jan 21 11:12:49 mail imapd: Connection, ip=[::1]
    Jan 21 11:12:49 mail imapd: LOGIN FAILED, [email protected], ip=[::1]
    Jan 21 11:12:54 mail imapd: LOGOUT, ip=[::1], rcvd=53, sent=332
    Jan 21 11:13:59 mail postfix/postfix-script[1952]: refreshing the Postfix mail system
    Jan 21 11:13:59 mail postfix/master[1699]: reload -- version 2.6.5, configuration /etc/postfix
    Jan 21 11:14:22 mail imapd: Connection, ip=[::1]
    Jan 21 11:14:22 mail imapd: chdir server1.ro/office/: No such file or directory
    Jan 21 11:14:22 mail imapd: [email protected]: No such file or directory
    Jan 21 11:14:35 mail imapd: Connection, ip=[::1]
    Jan 21 11:14:35 mail imapd: chdir server1.ro/conta/: No such file or directory
    Jan 21 11:14:35 mail imapd: [email protected]: No such file or directory

    even I send from root thru mailx un welcome message to office and to other records - already created in database - IT not create the maildir and the rest stuff inside.

    and the database look :
