Set Up Ubuntu Server With EHCP (LAMP, DNS, FTP, Mail)

Hi,

I am new to Linux. I am trying to set up Ubunto server 8.10 to act as a web server and an ftp server, using the howto in the title of this message.

The first problem that i have encountered is;

nano /etc/networking/interfaces.

When nano opens nothing is shown in the box? is this correct.

However when I check connected devices on my router it shows Ubuntu on 192.168.2.4.

I wish to change the DHCP ip to static. 192.168.2.99

If i write the information into nano; how and where do i save it too.

 

The correct file is /etc/network/interfaces.

 

Thanks for your help it all makes sense now.

However the howto that my original message refers to shows; etc\networking\interfaces.

Maybe someone should correct the howto.
