Hey, i have a new server in a datacenter which has 616k IP's, some are blacklisted causing a lvl3 blacklist, and this causes that server issues sending out to some hosts.. how can i set above server to relay through another server i have which has a very good reputation... server 1. is a single server (ispconfig3) - different domain from below mail server is part of a multi setup. (ispconfig2 - multi setup) the reason i have the 1st server is my broadband at 2nd site sometimes suffers what i discribe a DDOS attack or maybe a network overload.. it swamps my router stopping everything from working. I have changed provider in december and it happened last 2 week. In 4 days each day i supposedly downloaded 4.9TB of data, about 1TB a day.. - but that is another convo.. Actually,, how can i protect and ignore a DDOS attack if im a victim?
Thanks to Till for solution..... found this https://www.howtoforge.com/postfix_relaying_through_another_mailserver, This solved the issue
If you are using ISPConfig, then relaying is configured under System > server config > email. The above link in #3 is for systems without ISPConfig only, you can configure relaying manually like this on ISPConfig systems too, but it might be not update safe or break when you change things under system > server config in future.
Hey Till, thanks for you advice. I undid the original changes and used #3, what im getting now when i use thunderbird connected to server 1 which should relay through server 2 is: Code: Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: <ip.ip.ip.ip.hostname[ip.ip.ip.ip]>: client host rejected: Access denied. Please check the message recipient "[email protected]" and try again not sure why im getting this now and not before.. dave
Ensure that you use correct login details (username = email address) and password in Thunderbird when you connect to smtp to send the emails.
some reason it showed ok.. but deleted and re added and now fine.. a invisible spelling mistake maybe.. thanks till
