When i install ISPConfig 3, can i set my hostname as example.com and then make new site in ISPConfig control panel using same domain, example.com or do i have to use sub.example.com as my hostname to be able to make example.com site in ISPConfig? Can i use example.com as a hostname in any case or does it have to be sub.examaple.com always?
You should use sub.example.com as hostname, otherwise you might get problems later with postfix that email delivery to example.com does not work.
hey, I'm getting crazy with this, for the last day. I've installed the server with the hostname server1 and server1.domain.com. I've did successfully installed ispconfig on my vps, if I set a email account, I can send / receive emails, but when I create an website for domain.com, I loose the access to the webmail page, gives me an 404 error. The only way to get to the webmail is using the ip address. I've tried many things that i've searched on the web like this for example Enabling squirrelmail in ispconfig 3, but none works, this one here modifies in a way that after it I cant have subfolders in domains folder. Other solution made me download index.php when I tried to access webmail. Using this option it gives an 500 error, Using apache2-doc Any idea? Thanks in advance
Thats the normal way to access the webmail app of the oerating system, as webmail is served trough the so named default vhost which can be accessed by IP only or trogh a domain that points to the server in DNS but is not used for a website. My recommendeation for webmail is to create a nwe website like: webmail.yourdomain.com and install a webmail app of your choice into that website.
