Hey there all. First off, thanks to the creators of this software. It is a sweet spot.

    OS Ubuntu 8.04
    ISPCONFIG: 3.0.0.9 rc2

Bastille. After plenty of days I realized this was this was part of the problem I was having in setting up this ISPConfig server. It was blocking samba, and mdns which is in use on my lan. After a lucky guess i decided to add a firewall entry thru the cpanel and all the connectivity problems went in one go.

You see I am also running ufw on the server as it comes with Ubuntu by default. So the problem is now I have to firewalls running. I would much prefer to use the ubuntu firewall (ufw) as it allows me restrict access to ports by ip range also. from the firewall cpanal in ispconfig it looks like when you open a port its opened to all.

My question is can I somehow disable bastille gracefully while leaving it installed in case i want to play with it? And will this gracefully gray out/disable the appropriate portion of ispconfig?

I want to be able to setup various websites (for development purposes)
    somewhat like this...
    devsite1.local
    devsite2.local
    etc...

but i am lost in how to do this can someone provide a step by step....

I am thinking that some of the steps in this order are

    1) Create a client
For this client I can the go about creating
    2) Site, Email domain, DB, FTP etc...

But what has me confused is the DNS

Say i create a client called dev1 and I want to create a site for him called devsite1.local with ftp, db, email etc...

so that i can browse to devsite1.local from any computer on the LAN

That means i have to set up this ispconfig server as a NameServer that houses the entry devsite1.local. I do not understand how to do this...

I understand the part where then i would have to add ns.myispconfignameserver.local to the dns list used by each client computer which is as easy as just putting it in my router to be pushed out by dhcp.

But how do i get the ispconfig server set up correctly dns nameserver wise.

    Thanks.

    1) Just delete the firewall entry for this server in ispconfig.

    2) To create a dns ebtry, just use the dns wizard in the dns module. Fill out the fileds and click on save.

how do i delete the firewall entry.

I can't see how when I go into system....and bastille seems to always start up either at boot or via ispconfig or something. Can i remove it altogether without breaking ispconfig?

You can do this in the ISPConfig web interface.
