I have on board sound (CMI8738/cedx pci audio device) but I can't seem to get any sound when I use linux. It seemed to recognize my sound driver. Do I have to do some more setup to get it working?
Install alsamixer. I had this same problem on Fedora and others have had problems on Debian too. Download and install alsamixer. Run alsamixer in a terminal, hit right-arrow until you get to item "External Amplifier", and type "m" to toggle the mute setting. Also, bring up the Sound & Video -> Volume Control application and check for proper settings. Hope that helps
