Hi folks, This time I come asking about for some suggestions to mount a audio&video live or on demand streaming server. That said, what distribution do you recommend? with or without graphic interface? what apps do you know that is what i could need? have you heard of FluMotion / Wowz Media Server / MPEG4IP / FFMPEG / MuSE / icecast ? any reviews / suggestions / opinions for the above? So I be more specific, I am not planning to cast my self, just rent the server for some of my clients. My server will just stream their content. ---------------------------------------------------------- Another subject is a audio&video live conference server. As above, any suggestions / ideas ? I already have tried the openmeetings software, do you know any other? Thank you in anticipation for your answer, w0rldart
I work for Flumotion and I stumbled upon your post from our Google Alerts. I hope the following will be useful for you. As you may already know, our Software is only compatible with Linux distributions and our software is the only one to include the encoder and licenses for all third party formats and codecs such as Flash. We also offer a free 30 day trial which you can find at http://store.flumotion.com. If you don’t require proprietary formats then you can download the open source version of Flumotion at http://flumotion.net. Keep in mind when offering live streaming for clients, they need to use the included Flumotion Encoder, requiring them to purchase a license of the software as well. Alternatively, we offer packaged CDN service packs in our store, which include both Flash and Silverlight for live and on demand. For all other formats, devices and advanced features please visit http://flumotion.com. As for live conferencing software, I have had hands-on experience with Adobe Connect Pro, which is perfect for internal use. Video and Audio quality isn’t the best and therefore not the best solution for external presentations, but perfect internally.
Ok thank you for your response but, the problem is that I want to use free software to setup my own services for my clients and not buy licences/software or at least not for now. What I mean is that I want to mount a server where I can setup streaming ports/addresses or whatever for each client, because maybe I will have 2 clients that need to cast at the same time and in order to do that I will have to provide a different port for each of them. Same about the conference thing
For audio, I'd recommend Icecast: http://www.howtoforge.com/linux_webradio_with_icecast2_ices2 Not sure if this can be tweaked to stream live video: http://www.howtoforge.com/build-your-own-video-community-with-lighttpd-and-flowplayer-debian-lenny
Alleks, you can do this with the free open source version of Flumotion, using open formats such as OGG and WebM. You can download it here: http://www.flumotion.net/download/ Unfortunately we cannot offer direct support for the open source version of the software, but we have created an extensive manual with all the info. http://www.flumotion.net/documentation/
for easy audio streaming i like to use SMI (SHOUTcast control panel) @ smi.sf.net its does support icecast but you have to download and compile the code yourself for that its quick and easy , its need web server , PHP , mysql
Yes the only audio thing it's perfect, but the flowplayer tutorial it's just a player tutorial like the youtube thing, I don't see a way to use it to stream but I am going to dedicate it a few hours 1 of these days to see if I can come up with a tweak to do so. Tnx anyway. Flumotion.... i've been testing flumotion for a while but doesn't feet my needs, or I don't really know how to use it. What I have noticed, is that you may stream from something connected to your computer or a loop a video you have. What I need a software that allows me to cast from remote places! Any 1 familiar with that? Tnx zcworld, I am going to try SMI see what's all about
