hi, i am planning to migrate back to linux and i was hoping maybe you guys could give me some help on what fedora version should i use. my friends keep on telling me to install fedora linux. but which fedora linux should i download. Thanks mantra
What do you mean by which version? I'd use the most recent one, fedora 9. But for server purposes I'd prefer CentOS then, if you want to have a RHEL clone. (ohterwise I'd take Debian).
hi Ben, yes, actually i was planning to have a fedora box that will server as a distributed file server (for now) for my network. also i want to all my workstations migrate to fedora. so if you think that fedora 9 is good then i will go 9. by the way i have here a list so maybe you can help me choose 1: Fedora 9 Final i686 Live KDE Fedora 9 Final PPC Fedora 9 Final source Fedora 9 Final i686 Live Fedora 9 Final i386 Fedora 9 Final x86_64 Live Fedora 9 Final x86_64 Live KDE Fedora 9 Final i386 Fedora-9-x86_64 Fedora-9-x86_64 Fedora 9 Final PPC note: some were saying than v9 is not yet tested that's why i want to know which version should i go to. Thanks!
PPC is for PowerPC Architecture, e.g. older MACS. x86_64 = 64bit e.g. for an Intel / AMD 64 bit CPU i386 for all 32bit x86 CPUs, i686 is an optimizied i386 version, afair starting from PII. Live should be just a LiveCD version. So if you do not have any MAC, 64bit CPU or need a LiveCD I'd chose "Fedora 9 Final i386" as i686 is only avalable as Live and not installerversion.
