    Hello,

I have been running two Windows server at my office mainly as file server. Client systems running all Windows 8.1 for one server and Windows 8 / 7 / XP as well as Ubuntu Desktop, Mint Desktop etc for another server.

I want to replace both with linux servers, I would prefer Ubuntu 14.04. I need suggestions for running it as file server, do I go for Samba?

Moreover, if I want to have file storage like google drive or dropbox etc, how it can be done?

    Thanks in advance.

    Check samba http://www.howtoforge.com/samba-server-ubuntu-14.04-lts

Both google drive and dropbox can be installed in Ubuntu.

    Thanks for suggestions.

Well, regarding google drive like storage, you little misunderstood. I want my server to host files and users shall have access as similar as they access files on google drive / dropbox, i.e. on desktop or smartphone etc.
