    Hi all,
I just finished setting up a new multiserver ispconfig farm using bind9 as DNS server. I did some overkill on the nameserver in terms of CPU and memory as i really want that lookup to be blazing fast. (65ms and less zone).

Unfortunately my new DNS server is as fast as my old DNS server 75/90ms range which is acceptable... but i really want to go below that 65ms if possible. Anybody know where i can start looking?

90ms is alright for a server hosted in your country or a country around you for a domain that is not high traffic like google.com. Just tested my nameservers, and this is the speed:

You can run your own test with https://www.dnsperf.com/dns-speed-benchmark

according to your link my dns is 17ms/60ms. Im using mstoolbox as a main speed index... maybe im wrong for doing that.

The speed is fine so in my opinion there is nothing to worry about. mxtoolbox has some great tools but if their test machine is in the US and 95% of your clients is from the EU, their test results are not what your clients will see.

By the way, you don't need much resources for bind9. The network connection is the most important thing.

Yeah. knowing what i know now (not to follow mxtoolbox) i think i will turn it down a notch. its 4vCPU and 8GB RAM now. probably more 2vcpu and 4Gb. More than enough.

Depending on your amount of zones and traffic, you could even make it less :)
