    Hi

I have got as far as section 8

    8 Install Some Software

Now we install a few packages that are needed later on. Run

    apt-get install binutils cpp cpp-4.0 fetchmail flex gcc gcc-4.0 libarchive-zip-perl libc6-dev libcompress-zlib-perl libdb4.3-dev libpcre3 libpopt-dev linux-kernel-headers lynx m4 make ncftp nmap openssl perl perl-modules unzip zip zlib1g-dev autoconf automake1.9 libtool bison autotools-dev g++

(This command should go into one line!)

I get this error from Putty

    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
Package linux-kernel-headers is a virtual package provided by:
    linux-libc-dev 2.6.17.1-10.34
You should explicitly select one to install.
E: Package linux-kernel-headers has no installation candidate

Q: Is this an error ??

I'm abit on the new side

Here is a cut and paste from the putty terminal of everthing I have done so for :-

HTH as I don't want to go any further as I will probably mess things up.

    Thanks

Please leave out the package linux-kernel-headers in the apt-get command and try again.

BTW, PugWash is no FQDN. Your hostname should be an FQDN.

    Please visit !!!!!

BTW What would you recommend as FQDN for [email protected] ?

This webserver is for personal use on my cable internet connection ! Any ideas ??

Any way thanks again for your help. Your website and the Perfect Setup Guide made the difference when thinking about my own webserver project. I am a Windows user but began with BBC Micro and Sinclair Spectrum 48K !! I have been grasping at Linux for a while and this Site is Brilliant to say the least.

    Long may you 'ROCK' Amodeus

    Okee,

I am starting allover again. So I did an fresh install and got the same error, I already tried it myself without the linux-kernel-headers and then it's installing.

My Question dont we need the linux-kernel-headers any more?
I think it's maby already in the update/upgrade. Because thats the one thing that's differend whit my last install.

    No it's not required.
I think some packages were renamed/removed in the repositories.
