Transfer of emails

Hi All.

We have 2 email servers both based on a howtoforge document.

First one is 8.04 ubuntu, postfix (mysql and virtual users), courier and roundcube.

The second one is 10.04 with exactly the same packages (although they are newer versions).

the box itself works beautifully, emails are accepted and routed etc. there is just one flaw.

When I rsync the mails across using the tags to keep attributes the same, the email client (outlook and express) re-downloads all the mails again, as if they are new e-mails.

Obviously thats a bit of a pain as customers never seem to delete e-mails.

do you have any ideas how to stop this?

You could try to use imapsync ( http://www.howtoforge.com/how-to-migrate-mailboxes-between-imap-servers-with-imapsync ) instead of rsync.
