Help Set Up Blackberry to My Ubuntu ISPConfig Mail Server

I am running my webserver with Ubuntu 7.10, have used the Timms perfect setup up and am using ISPConfig. I have installed Squirrel mail and the email systems work just fine. I am now trying to interface my Blackberry with the server and am having no luck. I even tried a manual set up. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I need to locate the following information on my server.

User name : [email protected] OR web1_username
    Web Server: www.mydomain.com ?

I am using a custom DNS record with DynDNS.

Here is a copy of the email sent to me by the Blackberry system:

Your attempt to configure the BlackBerry Internet Service to deliver mail to your BlackBerry device from this email account was unsuccessful. This email provides instructions to help with the email account set up.

    You submitted the following information:

    Account Type:pOP3/IMAP

    Email Address:[email protected]

    User Name: web4_username

Password:****** (For security the password is not displayed.)

    Mail Server:www.mydomain.com

Please confirm the information. Refer to the instructions below for help in
determining the correct information. After confirming the information, log in to the BlackBerry Internet Service site and try again.

POP & IMAP Accounts Internet Service Provider email accounts are commonly either POP or IMAP accounts. You need the following information:Note: You can find out this information from either your desktop email application or your Internet Service Provider:Email Address:Your email address for example, [email protected]erver: The name of the Mail Server for example, mail.ISPname.com User Name: The portion of the
email address before the "@" symbol for example, patrickmoser in the address
[email protected]assword: The password for your account

The BlackBerry Internet Service site provides a utility you can download to help set-up your email account. This small application searches your computer for configured email accounts and provides BlackBerry Internet Service with these settings.

Are there any errors in your mail log?

The logs are in the /var/log directory.

I checked the mail.err file and it was empty. I may be off, but I believe the BlackBerry setup server has to send an email through my server to itself to verify the account and it never receives a response (from my server). I am using a DYNDNS account because I do not have a static IP, would that create any issues?

How would you access POP externally?
How would you access SMTP externally?

I am very new at this but your tutorials have helped me learn a ton in a few short months.

Thank you Falko for all your wonderful help.

    Update,

I can connect the the SMTP server using Thunderbird and Outlook with mydomain.com and username web1_username; however, the POP3 server connection failed.

This may be a port forwarding issue, will have to check when I get back to the firewall.

Would the email server be working normally (ie sending and receiving emails through SquirrellMail)if there was a port forwarding issue?

RESOLVED..... I did not have the default POP3 port (110) forwarded. I recomend any blackberry users with problems to check this port.

Thanks Falko for all your wonderful help!!

    Bitte!
