I am probably in the wrong place for this question, I have use UBCD to wipe the hard rive of a ASUS eee that had a Linux OS that in at least 10 years of using Linux I have never heard of but my question is as I have now cleaned the drive I will now go to Parted magic on the same disc to install WinXP and I do not know what prompt I should use. I know XP is now finished but I do need it for what I have in mind. I would appreciate any replies.

    HI

Here I do prefer gparted because it is graphical one & user freindly. Even you can use parted also.

See when you need to deploy the harddisk make it raw partition or unused partition space. Even Windows XP installer is quite smart to able to under stand the raw/unused space which it can format it in NTFS/Fat type filesystem.

    Hi

For windows XP you can get its iso or CD to from link

Have you already wiped the drive of Asus. If yes then in which filesystem it ws wiped?

Just start the installationof the XP it will automatically detect the file-system as in most cases a wiped partion becomes RAW partition.

Thanks again. but I am not progressing at all. When I click on the link you sent me I get all kinds of downloads and I am unable to work out which one is Windows XP installer as a lot of them have nothing to do with what need. Also is the program free. I hope you can put me on the correct download.

    Hi

All the download are for XP itself with different XP floavors, you need to download the XP.iso file as per your choice. Burn it in a CD then boot from CD & install XP. FOr keys you canb have the keys in the same link which are working fine.

Well thanks for all the advice but can't solve my problem as all the ISO CD downloads I find are to pay for and nothing is free as I thought. Thanks again for your help.
