I just installed ISPConfig after following the perfect setup tutorial. Installation was flawless, but I do seem to have one problem. FTP login doesn't seem to be integrated into the system. According to the server-status the ftp-server is running (which is confirmed by the fact that I am able to ftp to my server with the existing system users). However, any new users added to the system do not have ftp access. Any suggestions where I should look or which settings I overlooked?

    Thanks in advance.

Please enable the "FTP" Checkbox in the settings of the website to enable FTP for the users of this website.

The FTP checkbox is enabled, I came that far :)

However the mistake was even dumber. I failed to use the proper username "web1_<user>". So it is working actually.

But this username naming does raise another question. In the management | system config | settings | ISP Manager it is possible to set the prefix. In the prefix there is a standard item "[WEBID]" included which in my case reverts to "1". Can I just erase the complete prefix and put any string I like into the field without disrupting anything? Is it possible to change the "WEBID" somewhere (since this is actually our third server it seems strange to have users with a "web1" prefix)?

You can set any strong in the user prefiy that you want, but I dont recommend to use a fixed string. As this is your third server, you may want to use something like this:

    s3_w[WEBID]_ or s3_web[WEBID]_

You may also use the placeholder [DOMIAIN], but it may case trouble with usernames getting too long.

Thanks for your quick reply. What is the [WEBID] variable anyway?

The [WEBID] contains the internal ID number of the website, it corresponds withe the folder names in /var/www/web[WEBID]/.... where the websites are located.

And another question: is there an easy way to repopulate the database with the start-settings?

Some way deleting users and sites doesn't really delete them. They still show up in the dropdown menu's and the system users are not removed either. Am I doing something wrong?

The items are in the recycle bin. You must empty the recycle bin to delete them completely.

Are you sure you didn't mix up ISPConfig users (-> clients, resellers) and FTP/email users?
