    hi all

    from debian perfect setup:

    Next we create the file /etc/c-client.cf with the following contents:

    I accept the risk
    set disable-plaintext 0

    and restart inetd:

    /etc/init.d/inetd restart

    If we don't do this, then our POP3/IMAP logins will fail.

    that is exactly my problem. please? how can solve this?

    The c-client.cf is not needed for ubuntu.

    The perfect setup for ubuntu is for 32bit, not 64 bit, so file locations may differ.

    Do you get an error when you run:

    /etc/init.d/saslauthd start

    please post the output of the command:

    netstat -tap

    /etc/init.d/saslauthd start --> there is no error.

    :/# cat /etc/default/saslauthd
    # This needs to be uncommented before saslauthd will be run automatically
    START=yes

    PARAMS="-m /var/spool/postfix/var/run/saslauthd -r"

    # You must specify the authentication mechanisms you wish to use.
    # This defaults to "pam" for PAM support, but may also include
    # "shadow" or "sasldb", like this:
    # MECHANISMS="pam shadow"

    MECHANISMS="pam"

    You must always use the username and only the username for authentication, never the email address! So your sasl is working fine.

    Thtas wwhat I told you above! the username is web1_test and nothing else and the username works.

    No, it must be web1_test, [email protected] is the email address and not the username!

    The visible email address is set in the email client, not on the server and has nothing to do with mail authentication.

    You can set any email address you like in your email client.
