hi I have just installed ubuntu 7.10
i had a problem in startup log in screen. It said:
    Can't open file /usr/share/gdm/themes/Human/Human.xml

i changed the theme and the error is gone.
However, once i login, the theme is still the previous one.
My desktop doesnt show any files and it looks empty
Moreover, I cant access any folder from GUI mode, can access them only from terminal.
are these problems related to each other? any idea how to fix it?:(

Are there any errors in the logs in the /var/log directory?

I think it was because I tried to upgrade from ubuntu 7.10 to ubuntu 8.04
i gave up and installed ubuntu 7.10 fresh
    now its running smoothly

previously i had the prob because human theme could not be installed
I even tried installing the theme manually but it kept on giving me errors
