Hi All, I upgraded my server to Ubuntu 9.10. Everything is OK except that external calls to the DNS resulted in: Code: Dec 13 01:59:10 inferno mydns[5119]: *** stack smashing detected ***: /usr/local/sbin/mydns terminated Dec 13 01:59:10 inferno mydns[5040]: pid 5119 exited due to signal 6 Dec 13 01:59:10 inferno mydns[5040]: Server pid 5119 died So, I re-downloaded and did the configure, make, make install and rebooted. Now I no longer get that error, but externals are still not resolving! I updated my info at register.com to get things up and running, but can't figure out why this isn't working. If I run dig against localhost things are fine: Code: root@inferno:~/mydns-1.2.8# dig @localhost www.cocoanet.us ; <<>> DiG 9.6.1-P2 <<>> @localhost www.cocoanet.us ; (2 servers found) ;; global options: +cmd ;; Got answer: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 66 ;; flags: qr aa rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0 ;; QUESTION SECTION: ;www.cocoanet.us. Not sure what's going on with this problem. Any ideas on what to check???
Any ideas on the "Stack Smashing" Can't find much about it pertaining to mydns. netstat -tap: Code: root@inferno:~# netstat -tap Active Internet connections (servers and established) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name tcp 0 0 inferno.cocoanet.u:7634 *:* LISTEN 3944/hddtemp tcp 0 0 *:ftp *:* LISTEN 4279/pure-ftpd (SER tcp 0 0 h-74-1-46-174.sf:domain *:* LISTEN 3998/mydns tcp 0 0 h-74-1-46-169.sf:domain *:* LISTEN 3998/mydns tcp 0 0 h-74-1-46-168.sf:domain *:* LISTEN 3998/mydns tcp 0 0 h-74-1-46-167.sf:domain *:* LISTEN 3998/mydns tcp 0 0 h-74-1-46-166.sf:domain *:* LISTEN 3998/mydns tcp 0 0 h-74-1-46-165.sf:domain *:* LISTEN 3998/mydns tcp 0 0 h-74-1-46-164.sf:domain *:* LISTEN 3998/mydns tcp 0 0 www.cocoanet.us:domain *:* LISTEN 3998/mydns tcp 0 0 inferno.cocoanet:domain *:* LISTEN 3998/mydns tcp 0 0 inferno.cocoanet:domain *:* LISTEN 3998/mydns tcp 0 0 *:ssh *:* LISTEN 7984/sshd tcp 0 0 *:ipp *:* LISTEN 4469/cupsd tcp 0 0 *:smtp *:* LISTEN 4201/master tcp 0 0 inferno.cocoanet.u:5433 *:* LISTEN 3040/postgres tcp 0 0 inferno.cocoanet.u:6010 *:* LISTEN 32246/0 tcp 0 0 inferno.cocoanet.:10024 *:* LISTEN 2728/amavisd (maste tcp 0 0 inferno.cocoanet.:10025 *:* LISTEN 4201/master tcp 0 0 *:mysql *:* LISTEN 2907/mysqld tcp 0 0 inferno.cocoanet.:spamd *:* LISTEN 3164/spamd.pid tcp 0 0 *:5552 *:* LISTEN 1724/tprintdaemon tcp 0 0 inferno.cocoanet.:43995 inferno.cocoanet:domain TIME_WAIT - Till & Everyone, I'm totally baffled on this and its now working. Here's what I've done: Disabled ipv6 in kernel entry in grub menu.lst Fixed the entries for A, MX and NS records so they end with a '.' dot, again. I had done this when I fixed some issue under 9.04; so why did they disappear?? Changed the NS pointer at register.com to a different IP plumbed up on the same NIC. Disabling IPv6 seems to have solved the problem with mydns crashing. I have no idea what happened to the DNS entries and why they are different than what I had before. However, I also lost 2 email addresses, but I recreated those and the old e-mails were there. I wonder if MySQL Rolled Back to some state as I also had to fix up paths in some of the DB tables that had the ISPConfig2 style paths!!!!! And I know those were OK because Wordpress on 4 instances was working fine, and jinzora2 was working fine!!! As for changing to use a different IP address, again I'm very confused because this worked fine before the upgrade to 9.10!!! Another symptom is that there is NO traffic on eth1 except for cups and arp even though the NS IP is plumbed on eth1!!! And so are some websites, too!!! So, why is traffic only on nic0 and not on nic2???? Both are on same VLAN, did VLAN filtering change with 9.10???
I figured out the MySQL issue. During upgrade the /etc/mysql/my.cnf file got overwritten. I had set the data-directory to a 'custom' location on a LVM managed volume, but when it my.cnf got overwritten it pointed to the OLD data files in the default location. I'm surprised there weren't more issues Still trying to figure out the network issue. Will open a new thread on that.
