Hello all, I have ubuntu 7.04 server edition installed and running on microsoft virtual machine.

(before you tell me to switch to vmware, I am learning how to install and set up. On vmware it comes pre installed and set up so no learning curve)

I am now at the point of setting up putty, and I keep getting server error connection timed out.

Anyone have any ideas how to set up putty on a virtual machine on the same computer.
    Thank you

What's the IP address of the Ubuntu server, and what subnet are you using in your LAN (192.168.0, 192.168.1, 192.168.2, ...)?
Did you install ssh and openssh-server on Ubuntu?

    ip: 172.16.8.15
    subnet: 255.255.255.192

dhcp allocates ips based on mac address.
