Are there any issues to upgrading Ubuntu 14.04.6 LTS with ISPConfig 3.1.14p2 with the "do-release-upgrade" to 16.04.6 LTS inplace method? Or is there a better way to upgrade the Ubuntu? And when it gets upgraded to 16.04.6, will there be any issues with any of the components that ISPConfig is using to run things (dovecot, postfix, fail2ban, etc)?? Thanks. Robert
I am not aware of any issues when I upgraded from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 last three years as I follow the perfect tutorial for 16.04 right after I upgraded Ubuntu but I did run to minor network transition problem (now using netplan.io) when upgrading to 18.04 last year though.
You can do the upgrade in two different ways. Which is better depends. Whatever you do, first take image backup of the server. Upgrade your OS following the upgrade instructions you OS provides. Do follow them, that makes it more likely the upgrade succeeds. For example Debian has upgrade instructions in the Release Notes:https://www.debian.org/releases/stable/releasenotes Then use the ISPCOnfig perfect server guide for the new version of OS, installing and configuring the system following that guide carefully. Finally do ISPConfig upgrade and force it to do reconfigure services If you can have two servers running at the same time, you can use Migration Tool.
