get the status of mysql to see if it's running. can be folder permissions and owner. Sometimes it doesn't create users, databases, tables if it doesn't have write permissions to /var/lib/mysql. I have a problem with mysql and ubuntu 16.4 to. I can't get the service to start once I stop it. :/
