Unable to write to temporary folder: /tmp/

I am running installation script and get the following error. It seems that apache needs permissions to the /var/tmp/ folder to do the install. What is the correct to change the permissions? And how do I change it back after.

I have latest debian lenny and ispconfig3

    Thanks for helping.

Which software are you installing? Website scripts shall never try to access the /tmp folder as websites have their own tmp folder inside the website root and php is configured to use this temp folder. maybe your script does not follow the php configuration.
