I was updating to the latest stable version of ispconfig2 but the update didn't completely so swell, I googled the error message (I think it was mysql-related) and got a fix and ran the whole update again...got further but still errors with mysql. (I can't link any of these errors because I did all of this almost a week ago and just now got the time for this solving.) The problem is now that I can start the ispconfig daemon but it acts like it's first time on. Only login that works is admin/admin and there's no clients or sites or anything, firewall rules it's all gone! I guess the problem lies in the db_ispconfig? I have no backup of it so what to do (or does the update take a backup)? Apache and everything works fine, sites and logins are fine but just not the ispconfig part. HELP! I can run the ispconfig update once more to see what error messages I end up if necessary...and provide any logs you may need of course.
The problem was that you run the setup script a second time without creating the /root/ispconfig folder before. So the setup assumed that no ispconfig is installed and it was run in install instead of update mode. Take a look in the /tmp and /root/ folder if there are any backups as ISPConfig makes a backup before it upgrades the server.
I don't think the setup ran in install mode, it never asked me about where everything was... There are two .tar.gz files and .sql file in /tmp/ but the sql file is really small and the tar ball that should be ispconfig rather then the user files is also very very small. In /root/ there's only certs. If it ran in install mode shouldn't all the user files and logins be gone too?! If I now start using this install of ispconfig2 will it overwrite the existing logins? I have only changed admin password from it for now. I mean if I recreate the situation I had...will it make things even worse? Everything is fine but ispconfig is nullified, that's the main problem. Can't it recreate the rules/settings I had put from the raw confs of my system? Even firewall rules still apply as ispconfig says there none.

Ok, that's an empty SQL dump... Does the original ISPConfig database with your data still exist, or is it empty as well?
At least the isp_isp_user and isp_isp_web tables are empty. If you have no backup of the previous working database, there's no fix.
Yep, backups for wussies - so in other words, no. Perhaps here's a lesson to learn... Now the question is that what if I continue using this (fresh) install of ispconfig2 will it eventually overwrite the settings (with empty values or something) that work atm (firewall rules, databases, user folders, ssh/mysql/ftp logins, apache redirects, etc?!
