I thought I started a new thread here but now can't find it so I probably posted in the wrong place. If so, sorry. I was installing Kubuntu 11.04 following the HowtoForge perfect desktop pages. I had reached the stage of updating and the update appeared to stall at preparing linux-image-generic. After a long wait (>15 minutes) I tried a restart and then update again. The update page now shows a ! Warning Sorry - KDE Control Mo.... and 'An unknown error happened' with an 'OK' tick option. Being completely new to Linux/Ubuntu/Kubuntu I have no idea how to proceed.
I suggest you open a terminal and try the update again: Code: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade
I had downloaded, burnt, installed the desktop version so I tried again by downloading, burning and installing the DVD amd64 version. This is now operative. For directions, I initially used the pages http://www.howtoforge.com/the-perfect-desktop-ubuntu-11.04-natty-narwhal-with-ubuntu-classic but have now migrated to http://www.kubuntuguide.info/index.php/Oneiric I will work through this and hopefully not have to get back to you. Many thanks for your help.
