user name does'nt exist in password file

HI

when i open a terminal it shows i have no name!@host:~$

iam not able to view etc password or sudoers file to fix this coz
it says user id does not exist .i cud'nt able to proceed with any of the command using sudo.

please help.!

u cud not able to login as root
i tried loggin with the sudo command
but it says uid does not exist
also /etc/password file exist
but i cannot view the content in it
coz its readonly.

 

What exactly did you do before this happened for the first time?
