You are starting ProFTPd from within a not-existing directory. Go to another directory and try again. ProFTPd must be a standalone daemon, as described here: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_debian_sarge Create a website in ISPConfig, then go to the tab "User & Email". You can log in with the users you create there. http://www.ispconfig.org/downloads/manual_en/manual_kunde_en_src.htm#4_2_2
