Good Evening Guys I would like to maximize my server, what virtualization software will you recommend, I mean performance wise. Which is the best? OpenVZ, Xen, etc.? Please help me. Thanks. Joel
As of Feb23 XenServer is free. I run it in production servers and this thing is amazing. I used to have Xen open source but I migrated everything to XenServer. XenServer5 is a bare metal hypervisor based on CentOS and you can run linux or windows virtual machines. I had it up and running in 15 minutes. For a smaller project (2-3 VMs) you can use openVZ. Btw I tried KVM and I wasnt really pleased with it.. Red Hat 5.4 will come with KVM so I will try it again. -Adam
Performance-wise, OpenVZ is the best, but if you want reliability and predictability, use Xen or KVM. OpenVZ has so many (sometimes cryptic) parameters to tune, that it can happen that the guest stops in the middle of the night because it exceeded one of the limits you've set.
