Hi: I entered: sudo apt-get install vmware-server install proceeded up to 60%. I had to do some work so i left the ongoing installation to do other tasks on the same machine (bad idea) somehow VMWare Server Installation got interrupted. I repeated the last command in the Terminal: sudo apt-get install vmware-server Received the following response: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. I entered the command but received the following response: dpkg: requested operation requires superuser privilege How do I become a superuser? I wish it could be the default, I am the only one using this machine and is the desktop version not the server. Is not like I am running a network or some big operation, is just me in the back room Any help on this matter will be much appreciated, Adolfo Aguirre
Login, and type su and hit enter. Now enter the root password. Small tip. When you do big installs, use the command screen 1st, and do the rest of the install. Screen will open a "virual" session that you can connect back to again (with SSH) when the connection is lost for some reason.
VMWARE conflicts with VMPlayer Hi: Thank you for the help. Somehow VMWare Server is installed, but when I try instaling VMWARE Player from anywhere (Synapticn, add/remove, etc) they conflict. Synaptic gave me the option of uninstalling vmware to install the pĺayer ? Newbie sweat
You can only have one installed, not both. BTW, you don't need VMware Player if you have VMware Server. VMware Server can do everything that VMware Player can and more.
