VPS is taking up way too much RAM

I've just switched over to an unmanaged VPS service. Now in the past, I've used a server out of my basement, but since I've moved to this I've noticed that RAM is used up much, much more.

For example PHP and Apache are using well over 100mb's of RAM (I only have 512 to use on this VPS).

Does this have something to do with OpenVZ?

Are there any optimization features for amavisd, spamd or clamd?

You can try to reduce the number of amavisd children start are started when you start amavisd.
