ok... so first off thanks to everyone who has me thus far....:D

one last question... i hope.... i have found that i am being probed constanly by ftp access which is slowing the response time on my server. i have it switched off but would like to activate it.

my problem is is there logging for this, so i can black list these ips?

    The logfile is /var/log/xferlog

But how is this related to webalizer :) ??

ok, so far i have checked my stats via webalizer and have found that my isp has been checking my sever. my question is there a way to verify they are the one creating havoc on my server? and if so can i check what port they are accessing?

my router also presents little in the way of logs. so this will be a more sever based solution.

You have a mess in concepts...

Webalizer just analize your apache (http) log file.

At least now we know why you put "webalizer stats" as a title..

    You can check with
    Code:
    netstat -tap
