Ubuntu Linux 22.04.3 ISPConfig Version: 3.2.11 Backup directory is mounted to \\IP_ADDRESS\data\backups\WEB\WEB The problem started about a month ago. Backups have been working for years without issue. Now when I notice that the previous nights website backup doesn't run, I reboot the server. Upon reboot the backup begins and finishes just fine. That night the next scheduled backup will run just fine as well. After that the backup fails (files not created in the backup directory). So I have to repeat with the server reboot... I'm not sure what would cause this or even begin to know where to look or what to look for. I'm not a Linux expert by any stretch of the term. Any assistance, that would be able to direct me to what could be causing the issue and resolution, would be greatly appreciated.
Check if the backup directory gets correctly unmounted after a successful run or if its somehow stale so that it can not be unmounted or no files can be written to it.
It doesn't get unmounted after the script. It mounts the directory at boot. Backup is running now. I can expect it to complete successfully in a few hours. I can also expect it to successfully run again tonight. When I see it fail again, I can certainly check to see if I can write a file to the backup directory. Thanks!
Same thing happened again this morning. I was able to copy files to the backup directory. Not sure if it means anything, but I did see that the cron jobs were running. Screenshot from Webmin. Anything else that is recommended to look at?
That's what I initially thought. However I don't see the new backup file. I've waited days when I noticed the issue. When the backup runs fine, like after a reboot, I can see the new backup file incrementing in size.
Backups have been running successfully for about 6 days now. It looks like the problem was resolved after a firmware update on the NAS where the backup is mounted. I don't think the issue I was having was anything ISPConfig related. Thanks for the help.
