I wish to start of by saying that I am new to Linux. (Very very New) I am trying to setup fedora (core 8) to do the following and wondered if you guys could give some input on what I need and how I would go about installing it. Please excuse if what I ask for sounds alot like MS. 1. Active directory, Serving windows logons. (I read up that Fedora has FDS thats simular to windows AD) 2. File and Printer server. Serving windows pc's again. 3. Web/FTP Server. 4. Mysql server. 5. DNS server. 6. Mail server. 7. Antivirus server. (Serving windows clients) Previous attempts caused me to re-install 3 time. Twice because I had errors that caused the kernel to halt. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Oliver is currently working on a Fedora-Samba-PDC tutorial. If you don't need a PDC (primary domain controller), then take a look at this tutorial: http://www.howtoforge.com/samba-fileserver-with-swat-fedora8 Regarding web/dns/MySQL/mail, take a look here: http://www.howtoforge.com/fedora-8-server-lamp-email-dns-ftp-ispconfig If you want virtual email users instead of system users, take a look here: http://www.howtoforge.com/virtual-users-and-domains-postfix-courier-mysql-fedora8 I've also just written a tutorial about MyDNS on Fedora 8, in case you don't want to use BIND for DNS. I'll publish it in the next days.
