I might be moving in a few months Bellsouth sold out to AT&T who does NOT offer static IPs to it's residential customers (that I could tell on their web page) (that blows chunks especcialy to those who PAY for the max band width you can get) Anyway, IF I move and IF in the process loose my static IP. How do I set my servers up where I can be found? I absolutly REFUSE so let someone else host this stuff not only is it about the money it is about the learning experience. Someone else hosts it and what do I get NO LEARNING experience.
if you don't have email you could get a dyndns tool that will update your ip with their service... However the major problem you'll have with a dynamic IP is mail... most mail servers won't accept any requests from other mailservers with dynamic IP addresses...
SO receiving an e-mail would not be problem, getting others to receive e-mail from me would be a problem?
I'm not sure if it works both ways... I just know it's a bad idea to have a mailserver on a dyn. ip...
What is the alternative to keep www.missionnicarua.net on a dyn ip and still keep missionnicaragua.net as the e-mail with someone else?
There are providers that offer mail services only. Also ISPConfig supports that with the 'External Mailserver' option. So you could 'outsource' your mail and still host your website on the server of your choice. And if you want, you can fetch your mail with your local mailserver later on, so the main archive is on your box, and only for a limited time (depending on your poll rate) on the outsourced mailserver. Bit of a hassle, but it could work. On the other hand you can leave it on an external box an POP it directly from there into your mail clients.
I prefer dyndns.org U got the possibility to use a update tool to update the dns entries. But the intresting thing is, tha t dyndns.org provides also a mailrelay service for short money. so u can u r own mailserver and just relay your outgoing mail through the smtph server of dyndns.org.
