Went about the shell method, can now SFTP, probably not secure at all to do. Installed my own phpmyadmin.
Just checked port 21 using telnet and Pure-FTPd gave me the welcome message. Seems as though the user isn't getting added to the ftp server.
Getting to it from the servername is not an option for me because the server is a virtual server with http://www.slicehost.com/. The domain I used...

I have got the domain working, but can't login to FTP or PHPMyAdmin. PHPMyAdmin tries to go to http://{server_name}/phpmyadmin.
