Hello, New here, and new to Linux. I don't have enough experience with linux to be at the point where I have any substantial Linux-related questions - As this was the provided resource for our class, I just wanted to make sure I could post here. I guess I can start with: 'As a student just getting started with Linux, what are the main configurations I should get familiar with (or major considerations when assessing a specific config), and could you recommend a good online resource to begin exploring them?" - We are exploring desktop installations, and doing virtual labs. That is a very wague question to say the least. The question is what are you even using "Linux" for? Do you use it on a Desktop as a classic Desktop Operating System, or do you use it in a virtual environment like a virtual machine or WSL, or do you use it on/for servers? So the question is what purpose are you using linux for? Is there a specific requirement you want to fulfill? There are a lot of guides out there for free on the internet that are directed towards beginners. Loads of video and blog ressources, books and websites. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask!
Am I the only one who that course instructor really annoys? He or she has for years assigned new course participants as homework to post on howtoforge forum. I do not see how that is proper use of a valuable forum.
