apt-get upgrade actually is weird...

There where some updates today coming in with apt-get upgrade, asking for changes (or not) in mime.types, my.cnf and postgrey. That was going ok exept for the my.cnf. This one I had to take the old one because after reboot mysql couldn't start anymore. Maybe someone with more knowledge already noticed and has an explanation for this? It seemed, that debconf was renewed, too, so many changes are on their way...?

Anyway, after the smaller upgrades i did it's showing me now a list with many "nicht aktualisiert" packages...and I'm not shure, why it is not "doing" them...would these updates influence the function of the installation and that's why they don't include them automatically? Should I skip them?

I think this is because Etch became the new stable Version of Debian. If you have stable in your /etc/apt/source.list apt will catch the new stable packages which are the one for etch, and not sarge anymore.

apt-get will not update this package, because some changes may break your system, so you will have to yuse apt-get dist-upgrade in order to update to etch. But I would first read the debian Release Notes, and Backup my system before trying this.

I did it like hans mentioned and hope my server is comming up in a few minutes....

I left out the updated config-files...so, lets hope this still works. Are there significant changes in etch? It seems that there is php5 and mysql5 inside, too??

If you want to stick with sarge replace the "stable" with "sarge" in your /etc/apt/sources.list

Well, I did the upgrade (uaaargh) and it seemed to work. Seemed because I'm not finding any errors till now, lol.

Ok, one thing is not ok:

    Code:
    apt-get upgrade
    Paketlisten werden gelesen... Fertig
    Abhängigkeitsbaum wird aufgebaut... Fertig
Die folgenden Pakete sind zurückgehalten worden:
      libkrb5-17-heimdal

so, any help on that would be very nice :)

You can try to configure saslauthd as in the new Debian Etch "Perfect Setup".
