Hello, I completed the howto on postfix-courier-mysql with amavis (Great HowTo ). My question is about the clamav installation. I get the follwoing error message whenever freshclam runs: Code: Received signal: wake up ClamAV update process started at Sun Feb 12 07:25:09 2006 WARNING: Your ClamAV installation is OUTDATED! WARNING: Local version: 0.84 Recommended version: 0.88 DON'T PANIC! Read http://www.clamav.net/faq.html main.cvd is up to date (version: 35, sigs: 41649, f-level: 6, builder: tkojm) WARNING: Your ClamAV installation is OUTDATED! WARNING: Current functionality level = 4, recommended = 6 DON'T PANIC! Read http://www.clamav.net/faq.html daily.cvd is up to date (version: 1283, sigs: 2410, f-level: 7, builder: diego) WARNING: Your ClamAV installation is OUTDATED! WARNING: Current functionality level = 4, recommended = 7 DON'T PANIC! Read http://www.clamav.net/faq.html I have checked out the clamav site and read about my options for upgrading. I am just really worried about breaking my install. I am not really sure how to proceed. Question 1: Should I try to upgrade to the latest version 0.88? Is 8.4 the latest version to be officially released with Debian? Question 2: is it better to compile from source or use a binary distribution? I see that there are some "unofficial" packages here: deb http://people.debian.org/˜sgran/debian sarge main deb-src http://people.debian.org/˜sgran/debian sarge main what are the risks of using unofficial binaries? Question 3: What is the safest way to go about upgrading. Toastmaster
Yes, you can try to upgrade. The official version coming with Sarge is 0.84, I believe. I'd try the unofficial packages first. If they don't work (which I don't believe) you can still install from the sources.
It worked Hey Falko, I just wanted to say thank you for all of your help. I updated my ClamAV using the binaries and it worked great. All I had to fix after the install was to remove the "proxy:" statements from /etc/postfix/main.cf and the server is working great. You guys are the coolest .
