Sorry guys to bother you again .

But configuring our centos 4.4 64-bit server seems to be a bit more difficult then expected. Our next problem is our mail server, the previous problems we could all fix with a little help of howtoforge and a lot of googling and trying and retrying ... :)

We want to install an email server which uses virtual users stored in a mysql database (like the tutorial 'Virtual Users And Domains With Postfix, Courier And MySQL (Fedora Core 5)').
So wanted to install Postfix as MTA and courier as pop/imap and the rest for fighting spam, antivirus etc etc...
But a lot the necesairy packages, like maildrop courier-authlib-mysql, aren't available in the base centos repo nor in other centos based repo's (like DAG, KBS, Centosplus).
We found an excellent, very extensive howto on Flurdy (http://flurdy.com/docs/postfix/) for the installation of Postix. But again this tutorial is ubuntu based and again a lot of the necesairy packages werent available in the centos repo.

We found also other howto's which pointed us in the direction cyrus which then would using LDAP for storing the email users.

The perfect setup for Centos 4.4 advises the usage of Dovecot as pop/imap deamon.

So after all this we are a bit lost in the forest of pop/imap deamons. Is there anybody who can help us in the right direction?

We will right an howto about this if we ever get our mail server up and running :) so that people with the same problem don't have to go throught the same trouble as we did.

We like some advises which pop/imap deamon to use.
If anybody can help us in the right direction of which packages to use.
How we can use mysql together with the pop/imap deamons.

Keep in mind that we have an CENTOS 4.4 Server (x86_64) running.

    Any help is welcome.

    Have a look here: http://www.wains.be/?p=7

It says that Courier is available in the contrib repository, so maybe the other packages are also in there.

I will give it a try this monday, will keep you posted... will write a tutorial if we get it to work.

    So you would advice courier?

Yes, I haven't tried dovecot with the virtual users setup, but I think it should work as well (but the configuration will differ then).
