    Hi folks,
I just performed a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04 on my old Dell laptop and I'm having a video/display issue, ocassionally when I resume from standby I get a gray screen forcing a hard reboot. I've gotten this same screen on boot a few times. Is there anything I can run in the terminal that will help me decypher this problem? Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide.

    The command:

    dmesg

will show you the kernel messages of the early boot phase. Later messages can be found then in /var/log/syslog.
